November 2024

Wow. The Holidays are here? I’m starting to feel like one of those old guys you have to constantly remind what day of the week it is.

But here we are, Primetimers. Thanksgiving is upon us, and that means that Santa can’t be far behind. Where did the year go?

With the holidays comes family, friends, overeating, football, and other reminders of just how lucky we all are to be alive and in a city that values taking care of each other. We may all have our differences (and with the election day early this month those differences are sure to be front and center), but I hope we can all focus on what happens at the end of month. I hope we can all sit down on Thursday November 28 and remember that we’re all in this together, and that its much easier to help each other up than it is to try and win the endless tug-of-war. So do your best this month to reach out, talk, or at least lend a smile to that crazy aunt, that nosey neighbor, or that ragged person on the street corner. Whether they appreciate or even acknowledge the gesture or not really doesn’t matter. It is in the attempt you will capture the spirit of Thanksgiving and maybe, just maybe, bring a little light to the darkness.

Speaking of darkness, I’m so glad all of you were able to escape Perfection, NV after our annual Backyard Movie Spooktacular. As usual, the fun part wasn’t the monsters. It was the socializing beforehand. Kudos to all of you for your costumes this year. I had a blast. Thanks especially to Andy who helped me make it all happen. I didn’t get a lot of action shots during the event (I was kind of busy), which is why all you get above was a daylight shot of the monster, which looked much better at night. If you have others, please upload to Primetime

In addition to the Spooktacular, we had hikes, game nights, trivia nights, concerts, book clubs, happy hours, educational talks, charity walks, political discussions, movie outings, and more last month. So thank you Jeffrey, Heidi, Louise, Greg W., Jeff C., Anne G., Michael G., Marilyn M., Barbara A., Linda K., Lynn C., Mireya, Patty, Martha A., Miki, and Clare B. for making all that happen. We couldn’t do this without you.

Naturally things tend to slow down a little bit during this time of year as people start to focus a little mor on their own families. But that doesn’t mean we can’t still get together and have fun! We already have happy hours, dinners out, concerts, game nights, and happy hours on the calendar, but theres planty of room for more. Reach out and give a Primetimer a hug. You’ll be glad you did!

Meanwhile…be watching for the sign up for our annual Primetime Holiday Movie Roadshow at the Alamo Drafthouse – South Lamar on Wednesday, December 4. We’ll have a whole theater to ourselves to socialize, eat, play games, and watch one of my favorite holiday movies. I do this each year as a present to all of you for showing me so much support, although if you do want to donate to help me cover costs, there will be a way to do that. But don’t let the lack of funds stop you. This is a free event. I’ll even have free popcorn every few seats, and the Alamo staff will be on hand to order other items at your expense, including dinner and alcohol.

I’ll have the event posting up soon.

Meanwhile, let’s be careful out there. It promises to be an eventful month.

Keep on truckin’, Primetimers.

Gregg, on behalf of Louise, Patty, Barbara, and Tom
