August 2024

Greeting to all you Primetimers from the West Texas desert!

It’s been such a strange weather year, and as I watch an unexpected and unpredicted daytime thunderstorm roll in to my family’s ranch, I think about all the stuff we’ve been doing this summer in Primetime despite the overheated, humid days and sudden shifts to almost chilly temps at night. But you have all been troopers and good sports about it, and it seems the weather gods have not yet required us to cancel any events.

That makes me happy.

I don’t know about you guys and gals, but as I get older it seems harder and harder to convince myself that activities I once enjoyed are worth getting out of the house for. But there’s something about the people we have in this group that overcomes that laziness on my part. I hope it’s the same for all of you.

July was another great month for us. One big change was the move of the First Monday North Happy Hour to The District Kitchen and Cocktails on Anderson Lane. Of course there’s another one this coming Monday, and I hope you can attend. Meanwhile our Third Monday South Happy Hour continues at the Baker Street Pub & Grill, so you have no reason to not go make some new friends at these newcomer friendly events.

Also want to give a shout out to our trivia teams who have had a good run lately. They play most Tuesday nights at B.D. Riley’s Irish Pub up in the Mueller area, and it appears they been placing a lot of nights, with several rounds won and usually just a point or two out of winning the whole night.

And of course there were our normal social policy discussion meetups, coffee shop gatherings, book and magazine clubs, live concerts, small group dinners I(such as our monthly dinner at Hanks Austin), Barton Creek hikes, and a Backyard Movie or two. 🙂

Who said it was too hot to do anything?

August has already started off strong (I’m a couple of days late on the newsletter this month) with one of our regular StorySistas events, a game night, and a women’s clothing swap.

And there’s more on the way, including our annual Backyard Sing-A-Long featuring a viewing and audience accompaniment for The Eagles – Hell Freezes Over Tour. Also be watching for the return of some of other events that tend to pop up in late August and early September, including our nostalgia trip back to a misspent youth at the arcade with Pinballz Wizards 3. I’ll be posting that soon when I check on dates for a room rental. We’ll even have real trophies this year for you masters of the silver ball.

Contrary to habit, I am having to compose this entry on an iPad this month instead of my computer, so we’re going to cut things a little short this month. But watch the calendar for other events as they pop up.

And as always…

Keep on truckin’ Primetimers!

Gregg, on behalf of Louise, Barbara, and Patty (With a new Leadership Team Member to Be Announced Soon!)
