Warm enough for you, Primetimers?

I’ll admit between the heat and the rain outdoor events have been interesting lately. But don’t let that stop you. Our Event Hosts usually do a really good job of planning for heat during events, and of course there are always a lot of inside events to go to. So keep on getting outside or inside as the case may have it and enjoy the smaller crowds, traffic, and lines we tend to see in Austin during the summer. The students will be back soon. Let’s have fun while we can.

I personally was really proud of our Primetime Backyard Movie folks who braved warm nights for two Backyard movies – NOTHING IN COMMON (1986) which celebrated the combined Parents’ Days and our little mini Summer of Love during HAIR (1979) featuring an appearance by Panoramic Voices, Austin’s Community Choir, during the finale. They were the mystery charity I had the donation jar out for in case you were wondering. There were lots of pictures taken at that event, so you might check them out if you weren’t able to make it. There were also lots of POLICY events, book clubs, happy hours, dinners, backyard concerts, and yes, even hikes for you hardy souls.

So once again many thanks to our Event Hosts including Mahani, Jeff, Greg, Louise, Andy, Jeffrey, Anne, the other Greg, Heidi, Robert, Barbara, Joanna, Lynn, Mireya, Patti, Michael, and Clare, You are the heart and soul of this organization.

And of course all of that stuff is continuing this month. But there’s still lots of dates open and lots of stuff to do this month if you’d like to host something.

The Paramount Summer Film Series has a lot of great movies this month all on the big screen in the grandeur of that wonderful theatre. One date of note is this Friday when they are doing a double feature of DIRTY DANCING (1987) and FOOTLOOSE (1984). That place is gonna be rocking with all of us Boomers and X’ers. Right now I have plans to be in west Texas that night, but its possible that if no one else sets up an event and my plans change, I may schedule something last minute. Also on tap for July at the Paramount are the 40th Anniversary showing of PURPLE RAIN (1984), JAWS (1975), POINT BREAK (1991), 9 TO 5 (1980), MURIEL’S WEDDING (1994), and many, many more.

And let’s not forget all the swimming holes and pools around this city. Hard to complain about the heat when you are neck deep in Barton Springs or Deep Eddy. And maybe after a swim in Barton Springs catch a performance of LEGALLY BLONDE – THE MUSICAL at the Zilker Hillside Theater?

Point is there’s lots to do where you can have fun and beat the heat. And stuff is always more fun with your Primetime friends. So why not post an event? Any of your co-organizers will be glad to guide you in setting it up.

In that same vein, you may have noticed that the Leadership Team has started posting our regular monthly Zoom meetings as an event. If you have any suggestions, complaints, or compliments you’d like to share with the team, just sign up for that event and we’ll get you a Zoom link on the day of the meeting.

Until then, enjoy the summer and keep on trucking Primetimers. And watch out for this guy. Looks shady to me.

Gregg, on behalf of Louise, Andy, Barbara and Patty
