August 2022

Well hello again fellow PrimeTime members! As many of you know, I have returned to PrimeTime’s Leadership Team after a short hiatus and am once again fully engaged. This month I have been tasked by our Organizer, Louise Brewer, to write our Newsletter.

So where were we? There was Covid and now its variants. Masking and then unmasking. And of course our summer, which from where I am sitting, looks like it is going to be a very long one. Anybody not believe in climate change?

For the last couple of months, most of our events (not including the hikes!) have been held indoors or through your Zoom portal.  We have had a whole lot of shared dinners, movie nights, game nights, discussion events (both Zoom and in person), a weekly trivia event, and at least two happy hours every month. I know a lot of friendships have been formed (including at least one wedding) and new members continued to join our group; either because of our mission statement (PrimeTime is dedicated to building an active, inclusive, harmonious and supportive community of diverse people aged 50 and up) or because of the events that we offer.

PrimeTime is going to continue to exist and grow because of the type of people that we are attracting, but in building a community, there is something that I call critical mass that is essential to ward off the possibility of stagnation. We have to have enough interesting events on our calendar to attract enough interesting people to want to participate.  This critical mass works like a snowball rolling down a slope of sufficiently moist snow. (Tired of summer heat yet?).

Your Leadership Team is very interested in building this snowball.  Soon, every Event Organizer should be receiving an email from one of our Co-Organizers, Andy, asking for some feedback about why (or why not) you would (or would not) want to host an event.  Your response is very important to us, so please reply to Andy giving your most informative and honest answers to his polling questions. And if any other member wants to chime in about what they would like to see on our calendar or what events that you personally might want to host, please feel free to shoot me or Andy an email. We are all ears.

In closing, I want to say that it is good to be back on the PrimeTime saddle and on behalf of Louise and the other members of our Leadership Team, I wish you a refreshingly cool breeze for the rest of our summer and warm wishes for the rest of this year and beyond.
