Despite the record temperatures it seems like nothing can stop you Primetimers. July saw dinners, movie nights, happy hours, online discussions, hikes (you’re tougher than I am), trivia nights, and shopping events. And even with the heat, seems like all of you are finding ways to stay cool and be cool.
This month I’d like to highlight one of our long running online events, the so-called Policy Series, hosted this month by Miki and Anne. Yes, we all like to have fun in this group, but one of the best things about Primetime is that we also try to dedicate ourselves to lifelong learning. The Policy Series has been operating a little under the radar for awhile now, so I hope they don’t mind me featuring it here. It is online event in which various books and topics of geopolitical interest are discussed. This month’s topic is of particular interest right now as we all try to understand just what was in Vladimir Putin’s mind when he made the genius decision to start another war in Europe. Sessions usually feature suggested reading and questions. This month the group is first discussing Fiona Hill’s Mr. Putin: Operative in the Kremlin. You may remember Ms. Hill from the Trump impeachment inquiry, when she provided chilling testimony about Trump, Ukraine, and Putin. Other suggested readings are Owen Matthews Overreach: The Inside Story of Putin’s War Against Ukraine and the New Yorker article Eastern Promises: Who Lost Russia by Keith Gessen. Unfortunately for me these events are often on weekends, meaning I have limited access to Internet and usually can’t participate. My loss. I encourage all of you to take advantage of the insight they offer. The discussions begin August 8. This is the link:

Also want to remind the XY chromosomes among us about the need for a few good men to help fill out the cast of the next Murder Mystery Dinner coming up on August 12. These are fun, themed nights where you’ll eat, drink and solve the crime. Just hope the next victim isn’t you! Again…I’m out of town on weekends or I’d be there with you. Here’s the details:

Finally, don’t forget about our online event host training sessions coming up on August 10 and August 19th. If you’ve ever even thought about becoming an event host these quickly paced online sessions will give you all the information you need to know and help you decide. The links for those sessions are https://www.meetup.com/primetimeatx/events/294910781/ and https://www.meetup.com/primetimeatx/events/294911436/.
It’s probably a bit of wishful thinking, but I started getting my long sleeves out from storage today. Cool temps and cool events are on the way, Primetimers. Watch for some cool new stuff I’m planning for the coming months, and as always, keep truckin’.

I’ve always wanted to participate in a Jeffersonian dinner. Do you think this is something members would be interested in?
Absolutely! Dinners are already popular, and “dinners with purpose” would seem to be a natural extension of that–kind of a merger of the Policy Series and that. I’ll help you set it up and promote it if you would like to host. I’ll even come if its Tuesday through a non-movie night Friday.
